Talki AI is a mobile app for learning languages with a smart AI teacher. Users go through an intuitive onboarding process, choose their goals, schedule, and teacher, and then immediately plunge into a live conversation with an AI tutor. Lessons combine gamification elements, adaptive exercises, listening, conversational practice, and real-time feedback

Challenge:

Simple but deeply personalized onboarding of a language application

Onboarding is built as a friendly dialog with a virtual teacher, which creates a lively and human atmosphere. We gradually collect key information: language of instruction, goals, convenient schedule, etc. Each screen has one clear action, minimal text, and emotional visuals that reduce anxiety. As a result, from the very first step, the user feels personalized attention and the system's readiness to support them on their language learning journey.

Interactive vocabulary practice with instant feedback

We implemented a vocabulary practice module in which the user hears a word, repeats it out loud, and enters a text answer, which activates several channels of perception at once: hearing, speaking, and writing. The virtual teacher supports the user after each correct answer, creating positive reinforcement and motivation to move on. The interface is minimalistic and distraction-free: all the emphasis is on words and voice interaction. After a series of exercises, the user can indicate directly in the interface what they want to practice next, which allows the system to adapt the next lessons to their needs.

The task was to create a user experience that would inspire confidence in the AI tutor from the first seconds, remove the language barrier, and motivate users to speak English right away. It was important to take into account the different ages and confidence levels of users and build a personalized learning scenario without overloading them with complex settings.

Listening practice through real-life dialogues

An interactive Listening Practice module was implemented, based on short daily dialogues with characters and clear context. The user listens to the conversation, follows the transcription with keywords highlighted, and then answers simple questions to check comprehension. The ability to repeat phrases after the speaker and practice pronunciation adds an element of active learning. This approach not only improves listening skills, but also creates a connection between learning and real-life situations that the user may encounter.

Motivational transition from the trial period to the paid version

After completing the free trial lesson, the user sees a screen with achievements - how many words have been learned, how many phrases have been pronounced - which creates a sense of real progress. We don't just offer payment, we demonstrate the value of what you've already learned: “You are ready for the next level!”. Thanks to a gentle transition - first, positive reinforcement, and then a clear choice between continuing to learn or reviewing tariffs - the user feels that the subscription is really worth the investment.
